As part of National Engineers Week, Feb. 20-23, members of Cal Poly’s Society of Women Engineers (SWE) crisscrossed the Central Coast to introduce a record number of young students to the world of engineering. Almost 1,000 fourth-grade students in 31 classrooms throughout the region experienced engineering, collaboration and Learn by Doing through a variety of engaging hands-on team activities.
“By presenting fun and challenging activities, our SWE volunteers get to serve as role models and share their passion for math and science and all things related to engineering,” said Valerie Kettering, elementary outreach chair. “Our goal is to inspire girls and boys to see engineering and technology as an exciting field and rewarding career path.”
