Cal Poly President Recognizes Cal Poly Engineering Unit for Diversity

The award, presented June 2 to MEP Director David Cantu, recognized MEP's commitment to the value of cultural diversity. In particular, the Cal Poly Engineering unit was honored for providing outstanding academic support designed to recruit, retain and graduate educationally disadvantaged students in engineering and computer science disciplines.

Cal Poly's nominating committee recognized the MEP for its efforts to support enrolled students financially and academically, as well as in career-planning.

The group was praised for its efforts to assist talented but disadvantaged students within the local K-12 system to excel in science and math so they can compete successfully for admission to the most rigorous colleges and universities.

"MEP's work on behalf of diversity is truly impressive, and I am delighted to be able to recognize it," Baker commented.
