Cal Poly SWE Hosts Largest-Ever Fourth Grade Days

As part of National Engineers Week, Feb. 20-23, members
of Cal Poly’s Society of Women Engineers (SWE) criss-
crossed the Central Coast to introduce a record number
of young students to the world of engineering. Almost
1,000 fourth-grade students in 31 classrooms throughout
the region experienced engineering, collaboration and
Learn by Doing through a variety of engaging hands-on
team activities. “By presenting fun and challenging activities and serving as role models, our SWE volunteers get to
share their passion for math and science and all things
related to engineering,” said Valerie Kettering, elementary outreach chair. “Our goal is to inspire girls and boys to see engineering and technology as an exciting field and
rewarding career path."
