Majid Poshtan and Taufik Receive EPRI Research Grant

Taufik and Majid Poshtan

Professors Majid Poshtan and Taufik, Electrical Engineering, received funding from the prestigious Electric Power Research Institute ( EPRI). The two separate awards totaled $10,000.  EPRI is a distinguished nonprofit organization supporting research in energy and the environment.  EPRI GridEd grants the fund for undergraduate design projects on power-engineering and power-systems.

Electrical Engineering Faculty: Majid Poshtan

Poshtan’s project is about the feasibility of putting the existing overhead transmission line network in Cal Poly, Microgrid Testing System ROOM 20-102 underground.  The project includes safety and reliability measures that help increase the Cal Poly microgrid test system’s resiliency during extreme weather and wildfire conditions.

Taufik’s project is about a Hybrid Power Controller as a power supply unit for a residential-electric-system. The proposed controller integrates AC and DC loads with Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) connected to AC, DC systems, or interconnected.
